One of the militaristic religious groups founded after the fall of the old world was called ‘Founders’. In just a few years of existence, they gathered many survivors under their banner and amassed significant wealth. But internal squabbling and a protracted war with the Engineers led to their demise.
The top of the Founders' hierarchy was very secretive , they lived apart from the rest of the followers, which also provoked some anger in the uninitiated. But when a crowd of armed rebels stormed into their territory, they found strange structures and symbols, huge unfinished statues, but no living leaders. In anger and fear the mob destroyed everything they could, nothing of value was found. Whilst defacing the imagery, there was a loud crack, the huge faces seemed to have come to life and began to utter prophecies in many different languages. People fled in panic. Later it turned out that far fewer insurgents left the Founders Canyon than had entered it. Some were missing friends, others — their brothers.
At least, this story is whispered around campfires on cold moonless nights. Yet the legend of the cursed Founders treasure is repeated too often in folklore to be just a myth. To this day brave men go on treasure hunts to this strange place, but few of them ever return.
